Why Choose Aquatic Adventures?

There are a number of reasons in which our operation stands apart from the other operators on the Silver Bank. Tom Conlin, founder of Aquatic Adventures, was the first operator to run a “Whales of the Silver Bank” expedition. He has 20 years experience over a 206-week time frame working whales on the Silver Bank. Coupled within these 20 years of understanding behaviors and movement of the “Whales of the Silver Bank” comes experience, knowledge and interaction with dozens of various marine mammals in different locations around the world. With 81 additional weeks working with dolphins, sperm whales, sharks and 25 various cetaceans throughout his 20 years, Tom is, the most experienced operator on the Silver Bank, complimented by the Aquatic Adventures Team your odds of having numerous, long in-water encounters increases tremendously.

The Aquatic Adventures Team:

Denise Lawrence, Nelson Riollano and Lorenzo Martinez, have been working with Tom for the past 5 to 7 seasons. The Aquatic Adventures Team collectively has 386 weeks of know-how in approaching, working and interacting with humpback whales. With 297 more weeks than any other tender operators teams, you'll be assured of a quality experience with the most accomplished operator.

Denise holds her USCG License, loves the whales and has spent her time absorbing all the “whale” knowledge that Tom has to offer. She drives “Challenger”, one of our tenders, and works the whales very well. She spends the rest of her time at the Dolphin Research Center in the Keys. Denise will again join us in 2011 for her 6th season.

Nelson captains a scuba diving live-aboard in Micronesia for six months per year. Each season he returns to work the whales with Tom. 2011 will be his 6th season as well. Nelson is primarily one of the cameramen and is in the water with you most of the time; he is also an accomplished tender operator.

Lorenzo represents the Secretary of the Environment of the Dominican Republic. He joins us the majority of the season while rotating between the different operators. Lorenzo has excellent spotting skills, in-water understanding and tender operating abilities.

The Aquatic Adventures Team has been featured on the Today Show, in The Washington Post Magazine, and numerous newspapers and magazines worldwide. We have worked with numerous film and TV crews, most recently, Gregory Colbert (Ashes and Snow), working on his new project “Song of Sea”. We work hand-in-hand with the research community. In 2009, we completed a two-year NOAA project placing 12 satellite tags on female humpback whales. This has given us incredible insight to their migration patterns.
